Together We Care (TWC) was established in 2017 by Barry Sedgwick, who cared for his wife Nancy. There were Carer Groups in the East Riding supporting unpaid Carers, but no groups where unpaid Carers and the individuals they care for could come together in a supportive, friendly, non-judgemental environment, and so Together We Care was born.
TWC meets on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month from 1pm to 3pm at St John’s Methodist Church, Market Weighton YO43 3AJ, with free parking behind. TWC offers everyone a friendly welcome and safe environment, with refreshments, where Carers can meet and talk to other Carers and where their cared for, with a wide variety of health issues, are welcomed; there is a small charge of £2 with games and a fun quiz for those who wish to take part.
TWC is also an information/advisory hub for Carers who may not be aware of their rights and entitlements under the 2014 Care Act.
Carers who attend TWC can talk to us openly about the challenges and feelings they face, in the knowledge that we understand and that within the group there are other Carers who can also empathise; our members have made supportive friendships within the group.
The group is financed by applying for grants, receiving donations from organisations and individuals within our community and also receives an annual grant from East Riding of Yorkshire Council Carers Social Fund. The funding is used to arrange days out, lunches, Christmas celebrations, the hire of meeting premises and administrative costs.
TWC is run by a committee of dedicated, voluntary, unpaid carers and past unpaid carers and welcomes all carers with their cared for and all individuals with long term health issues.
